Steven Berkowitz MD

Dr. Steven Berkowitz a child and adolescent psychiatrist and professor in psychiatry and pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where he directs the Stress, Trauma & Adversity Research and Treatment Center (START). START’s clinic provides treatment to children, families, and adults with the conviction that a lifespan and developmental frame is essential to effective treatment.

He received is MD for Drexel University and did his Psychiatry training and Yale Department of Psychiatry and the Yale Child Study Center where is was on faculty from 1995-2009. Dr. Berkowitz’s has been at CUSOM for 2 ½ years. Previously, he was at the University of Pennsylvania SOM from 2009-2018. His career has focused on the prevention, intervention, and treatment of traumatized children, adults, and families. His has a particular focus on the impact of Early Life Stress throughout the lifespan.

Dr. Berkowitz’s work has been featured in top national news outlets, and he is a go-to national expert for media for mental health issues at the forefront of the current pandemic.
