Grab your chair and let’s stretch! This session will include gentle breathing and stretching exercises to combat the effects of sitting. No yoga mats, sweat, floorwork, or change of clothes needed. When you're stuck in your head, it can be hard to focus, listen, and absorb new information. This grounding meditation will bring you back to your body, starting with a body scan and finishing with a technique you can use to ground at any time during the conference.

Concurrent Session 8: Advances in Mental Health: Functional Medicine and HYLANE Technology (CME)

Jun 4, 2021 1:00pm ‐ Jun 4, 2021 2:30pm

Identification: 207

A very wide range of neuropsychiatric conditions (from mood and neurodegenerative disorder to PTSD and traumatic brain injury) benefit from functional medicine, which sets the foundation for brain recovery. To fully normalize brain function, we must build on normalization of the body terrain, by working within the brain, by identifying and correcting the specific disrupted cortical and network functions. Via case presentations, Dr. Hedaya will present an approach which layers a series of three technologies (HYLANE) onto functional medicine, demonstrating how we can extend our healing abilities to specifically targeted brain networks (and symptom clusters), and cortical dysfunctions with remarkable results.

Concurrent Session 9: Call for Presentations (Non-CME)

Join our panel of expert clinicians as they share personal experiences on how they are navigating the clinical terrain of COVID-19 long haulers. This exclusive AIC discussion will also present a framework for advancing clinical care in a post-COVID world, with key insights for building resilience and supporting long-term immune health.

Concurrent Session 11: Functional Medicine Research: Setting Standards and Getting Published (CME)

Jun 4, 2021 1:00pm ‐ Jun 4, 2021 2:30pm

Identification: 210

This presentation will offer attendees practical guidance to contribute to the functional medicine research base while in the “real world” of clinical practice. The Institute for Functional Medicine’s Research and Publication Standards will be unveiled alongside tips for successful planning, implementation, and publication of research. A representative example of functional medicine research using publicly available data to evaluate associations between toxins and autoimmunity will conclude the presentation.

Concurrent Session 12: Proactive Strategies to Make it to 2022 (CME)

Jun 4, 2021 1:00pm ‐ Jun 4, 2021 2:30pm

Identification: 211

We talk about resilience, but how to feel it and have it? This interactive session is designed so that you taste and receive the experience and gain the tools and discovery --through personal insight and learning from live sharing with peers. It's impossible to do self care "right" at this time. Good news, you don't have to. Join us to connect live with your colleagues, hear what and how to get through the rest of 2021, to regain equilibrium given the cumulative stress of training and providing care in the US. See real time how others are doing, coping and finding ways to support themselves and others. We intend for you to feel more hope, joy and more in your body, in a way that can last.

Concurrent Session 13: How 2020 Changes in Insurance Reimbursement has Big Opportunities for Functional Medicine Practices (CME)

Jun 4, 2021 2:00pm ‐ Jun 4, 2021 3:30pm

Identification: 212

The major changes initiated in 2021 to the guidelines for Evaluation and Management (E/M) services have created an important opportunity to rethink the potential for functional medicine to be delivered profitably by payer-participating practices. This session will:
•Lead providers efficiently through the key changes in 2021 that are most relevant to functional medicine practices
•Quantify the economic impact of these changes for practices
•Chart a practical course to practice optimization for payer-participating functional medicine providers
•Show non-participating and opted-out providers how to use the public health emergency to quickly reengage with the payer system
